Incorrect alphabetical sorting of Danish/Scandinavian files and folders

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Incorrect alphabetical sorting of Danish/Scandinavian files and folders

Post by *TvE »

First post - long time happy TC user :D

The sorting of Danish (well Scandinavian) files and folders are incorrect.
Comparing with Windows (10) and WSL2 reveals problems there as well, perhaps TC is enheriting the sorting logic from W10?

The correct alphabetical order is

Code: Select all

ABCD...XYZÆØÅ
but the actual sort order is like this:

TC 11.02 & Windows File Explorer

Code: Select all

AÅÆBCD...XØYZ
WSL2

Code: Select all

ABCD...XYZÅÆØ

So WSL2 is closest (placing the three special characters `ÆØÅ´at the end, but in the wrong order)
TC & Windows explorer is using a weird order...

On Windows 10 and 7 using "Natural sorting alphabetical and numbers" or "Alphabetical considering accents" in TC's Display setting, sorts the Danish characters Æ,Ø and Å correctly, so it must be a Windows 11 problem.

BTW - The whole Danish sort order is :

Code: Select all

1 A Á À Â Ã B C D E É È Ê Ë F G H I Í Ì Î Î J K L N Ñ O Ó Ò Ô Õ P Q R S T U Ú Ù Û V W X Y Ý Ÿ Ü Z Ž Æ Ä Ø Ö Å Aa
The sorting of Danish (well Scandinavian)
The Swedes don't use Æ and Ø and their sort order of the last 3 letters is Å, Ä, Ö

The Norwegian and Danish keyboard layout is not identical either - Æ and Ø are swapped on the two keyboards.

I have made some screenshots:

https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/accentssorting.png
https://tcmd.madsenworld.dk/ntfssorting.png

As you can se the two first only are differnet sorting numbers.

"Natural sorting alphabetical and numbers" should sort the same way as the Explorer. But if the Explorer does it wrong, then TC will do the same thing, sorry.

Here someone writes that changing the locale did fix it for him on Windows 11 - maybe it helps on Windows 10 too if you first switch to English locale and then back to Danish or Swedish:

If you're using English-based locales, then "O" characters fit between L and P.

Try switching back to Swedish region, and using a custom time format under Settings / Time & language / Language & region -> Administrative language settings -> Formats
