MP3 files playback...

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

MP3 files playback...

Post by *MaxX »

Strange, but internal TC's player can't play MP3 files with any "Cover" image in ID3-tags.
And play them normally after I remove these images via Foobar2000.
Is that a bug, or not?

I can't confirm.
However, some issues were reported with the earlier version of TC.

I cannot confirm it either, but maybe it depends on the file - can you provide an example of such an .mp3 file

Example
https://www.upload.ee/files/16136305/test_mp3.7z.html
Two files there:
with cover inside.mp3
without cover.mp3

TC can play "without cover" only.

I've already tested the issue with another mp3s (lots of them) and get the same result - noone could be opened with cover image inside of ID3.

For me, both example files are playing fine with the TC internal media player.
I have installed K-Lite standard, which include the actual LAV filters.
TC is set to "Use default system filters"
Only the following files from 09.11.2023 are stored in Filters64
AutoPitch.dll
SoundTouchDLL_License.txt
SoundTouchDLL_x64.dll
vmr9rotator.dll
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3527)

That may be the diffrence.
I don't install any 3-party codec packs.
Also, both FILTER32 and FILTER64 have original contents from author, no files were added there.

I use more than one file manager and also the MPC-HC player.
It would be a strange idea to add codecs per application.
The K-Lite software is stable for me since a long time and continuously updated.

Nothing strange. I have both MPC-HC (with internal LAV) and VLC. No need to use KLCP or anything similar.

So you have twice the LAV filters (in TC and MPC-HC).
I don't see any benefit in this setup, but it's your decision.
The system-wide installation always gives the actual files in all applications.

TC can play "without cover" only.
I can play BOTH of those files in TC 11.02 x64 with Internal Lister with LAV-filters v. 0.78 from https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilters/releases - and I can see the cover in "Static-X - Z0mbie (2023) = with cover inside.mp3"

I do NOT have any codec packs installed.

What are the settings in your wincmd.oni for:

Code: Select all

[Lister]
PreloadInputFilters64=
PreloadFilters64=
PreloadFilterType64=
If PreloadFilterType64=1 then it is not present in wincmd.in, since it is the default.

Maybe TC are using some system-wide registered LAV filters from for example MPC-HC (although MPC-HC does not register its filters by default).

You could try with:

Code: Select all

[Lister]
PreloadInputFilters64={B98D13E7-55DB-4385-A33D-09FD1BA26338}
PreloadFilters64={EE30215D-164F-4A92-A4EB-9D4C13390F9F},{E8E73B6B-4CB3-44A4-BE99-4F7BCB96E491}
PreloadFilterType64=2

This is a known bug of the internal Windows mp3 decoder - it can't play mp3 files where the tag section exceeds a certain size. There is no solution except for using a 3rd party mp3 decoder. I recommend the LAV filters - you don't need to install them system-wide, just put them in the FILTER64/FILTER32 directory.

No. I don't have them installed at all.
MPC-HC is just unpacked portable version. VLC works the same way.
And I did not put any 3-party dlls to FILTER* folders.
