otherwise you might end up trying to change the directory several times before you realize it is prevented by TC.

If you change the directory again, then, logically, to an existing one. I don't want a window to pop up with every typo, which prevents me from continuing my work quickly. It would be better if such a dialog call would be optional. If non-modal tooltips appeared instead of dialogs, then there would be no problems.
