Lister (F3) freeze on opening menu bar, TC crashes

Post by *matyibacsi »

I have a LISTER problem, I can't say since which TC version (9.x, 10x. 11.x ???)

1.) I open the LISTER (F3 key) on a text file
2.) Go over with mouse to the menu bar and click on it to open (e.g."options")
3.) menu opens but it freezes immediately
4.) TC crashes within one second to desktop

I could imageine that it may be (may be not) has something to do with:
- my triple monitor setup with Nvidia surround, and/or
- scaling the fonts in windows to 150%

I had this problem on my old PC with windows 10 and now I installed a new PC with windows 11 but the problem is just the same.

Does it happen if you use a fresh wincmd.ini file?

Does it happen if you open without plugins by pressing Alt+Shift+F3 ?

My problem is that there isn't any function to query whether a specific file or file type is blocked or not.

Does it happen when you view a file with Alt+Shift+F3 too? Or only when viewing it with F3?

If you use Total Commander 64-bit, could you try with 32-bit instead (and vice versa)?

Heureka! This is it: I switched to 32-bit version and it works like a charm !

On the other hand I would be interested why the 64-bit version freeze on F3 lister ? (can this be the nvidia surround of 3 monitor setup or something completely else?)

Is there any performance difference between the 32-bit and the 64-bit version ?

Does the freeze happen also in other TC windows, specifically in ones that have a menu? When it happens, does the TC process cause high CPU usage (see Task Manager)?

It could be one of the Lister plugins - Total Commander populates the "Plugins" menu when you open the menu, so you can directly switch to a specific plugin. Do you see any plugins in the "Plugins" menu in 32-bit? What about 64-bit when you open that menu first?

It is not likely that there are any plugins installed in a freshly installed TC on a new PC.

Sorry, then I have no other ideas what could be the problem. They could run the free tool procmon from Microsoft to find out what's going on:
