In the past I was able to drag an internet link from the desktop, or directly from Firefox into the TotalCMD left or right pane. All of a sudden this is not possible anymore. Anybody has any ideas about this?

That's actually a VERY VERY bad solution, because all programs you launch from TC will also be launched in Windows 8 compatibility mode!It recommended to set the compatibility to Windows 8
Here TC works just fine in Windows 10 mode. There must be something wrong with your setup.

Testing this feature revealed a bug: using unelevated TC 8.52a x64 @ Win 10 I dragged a link to C:\Program Files and got an overwrite confirmation dialog while there was no file with the same name! And after I clicked "Overwrite" I got a "Remove write protection" error.
Dragging the same link to any folder I have the rights to succeeds.
