Win10: TotalCMD 9.0 b8 and dragging files problem?

Post by *teunotn »

In the past I was able to drag an internet link from the desktop, or directly from Firefox into the TotalCMD left or right pane. All of a sudden this is not possible anymore. Anybody has any ideas about this?

Regards, Teunis

You cannot drag something from an source started with normal user rights to a destination with elevated rights (started as administrator).
This is a windows security restriction.

Problem solved! I ran the compatibility troubleshooter for this version. It recommended to set the compatibility to Windows 8, and now I can drag urls from the desktop to the TC pane, as before in Windows 7.

Thank all for your comments

Actually if your problem has been solved with troubleshooter, perhaps there is something that may be really fixed...

That's actually a VERY VERY bad solution, because all programs you launch from TC will also be launched in Windows 8 compatibility mode!

Here TC works just fine in Windows 10 mode. There must be something wrong with your setup.

Testing this feature revealed a bug: using unelevated TC 8.52a x64 @ Win 10 I dragged a link to C:\Program Files and got an overwrite confirmation dialog while there was no file with the same name! And after I clicked "Overwrite" I got a "Remove write protection" error.

Dragging the same link to any folder I have the rights to succeeds.
