You may want to check nnBackup 3.01b18 ( http://www.nncron.ru/download/nnbackup301b18.exe ). This is a small but powerful command-line tool for backing up and synchronizing your files and folders, creating and processing file-lists etc.
Nero usually gets it right - if it says it's bad, it really is bad.
To avoid creating lots of nice shiny beermats, I never burn at the max speed possible for the media. I find that the slower the burn speed the fewer the problems, even with branded media.
Burn to the Brim seems to be the best bet for me. SizeMe can't deal with subdirectories that are too big for one medium. It always wants to fit whole subdirectories onto one medium, which makes it inefficient.
BTTB also allows you to drag and drop your compilation into Nero etc, like SizeMe does.
