Change the position of the button bar

Post by *Iceman94 »

Hi everyone.

I'm using TC v6.56 and I was wondering something. Since it is now possible to use a vertical panel style, I found the position of the button bar (you know, the one in the top) not so practical.

So, is there a way to move it to the center of the TC window (like this)?

Thanks for your help.

Not buil-in…

:) Hello, bonjour,

• That sounds logical using superposed panels, but AFAIK, there is not any built-in feature to do so…

Thanks for the answer, Claude.

Do you think this feature could be added in a future release of TC?

:) Hi again !

• Frankly, not any clue…

- You might post this as a request, so whether some script or tool could allow to do this, you'll know…

Thanks for the suggestion, Claude. I've posted a request here (I just hope it was the right place to post it!).

A center tool bar (between the panes), multiple toolbars, floating toolbar(s), dockable toolbar(s), etc. have been requested here for years (especially by me). No luck yet. So the evidence suggests that modern user interface elements are of low priority with the author and even with the users who post here... when your main input method is the keyboard (apparently the case with most TC users) modern GUI elements don't add much utility.

For the rest of us mouse users, though, the lack of such GUI flexibility in TC is a continuing drag on productivity.

Thankfully, the toolbar that TC does have is well designed.

:) Hello John !

• With superposed panels, the central button-bar is indeed needed…

• About the other wishes you recall, one feels to preach in a desert…
…Thankfully, the toolbar that TC does have is well designed.
• Not totally IMO, an annoying lacuna remains, like I explained again HERE :|

• Let's hammer the nail!

Not for keyboard users :P. One can't access buttons by using the keyboard. I'd imagine something like cm_FocusButtonBar and further more inside the button bar:
- ctrl+arrow = jump to the next separator
- home/end = jump at the first/last button
- space = button context menu
- insert = insert new button
- shift+insert = make a button out of the currently highlighted file
- maybe a special quick search dialog for button titles.

Dreams...

A bit OT, but I support roentgen's request. I think every element in TC should be accessible by the keyboard as well.
I promote the use of TC among some friends who are visibly impaired, so..

So, now we have FocusButtonBar, Space/Home/End work also. But I think, Ctrl+Left/Right for jumping over separators and Ins/Del for adding/removing buttons would be great.

Ctrl+Left/Right sounds great! I prefer not to add Delete, though. You can delete buttons via context menu (Shift+F10).
