different color for active folder tab

Post by *jdmarch »

When there are multiple folder tabs, I find it difficult to quickly distinguish which tab is active. Is there any way to differently color the label on the current tab, so that it stands out more strongly?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Do you have Windows XP or Windowsblinds. Using a systemwide skin system could make it easier to distinguish which is the active tab. Look at my screenshots page:

There are many other visual styles...

Thanks, Lefteous, but I'm using Win2K, and don't want to put the time and energy into using Windowblinds to skin the entire system. I'm quite content with TC's plain look, but it's quite common, in programs which use multiple folder tabs, to provide an option for greater contrast with the active tab.

BTW, it seems that none of your screenshots show multiple tabs.

Thanks,
Jonathan

It would be nice if you could define (like for example in MyIE2) colours of backgrounds and texts for active and inactive tabs.

Sorry about that. I have updated my page.

Indeed, very nice contrast, although the overall effect is too "busy" (distracting) for my taste. (I understand, that's the advantage of skins ... get it exactly as you like it... *if* you have the time and patience.)

Thanks again.

Pesonally I don't use the mac skin. It's just an example. I use the standard xp visual style luna blue, which shows a small orange horizontal line on the active tab, which is much more ergonomic than the classic skin.

This is still my only complaint with wonderful TC6 - I really can't see which tab is active. And I really don't want to skin the entire Windows UI just to add this feature to one program.

ghisler, any chance of this feature appearing in a future release?

Thanks!

P.S. For anyone else having this problem: I did discover that the active tab is the one in which the thin left border line is light instead of dark. Not quick to find, but possible!

Hi I recently started a thread in the german forum where I suggested to set the active tab font style to bold and show all other in normal style as seen in Mozilla Firefox. What do you think about this?

Hi Lefteous... Sounds good to me. Bold, Underlined, Italic, or colored... I don't care, if only I could see it!!

I would prefer if possible "toggleable" buttons :D instead of tabs.

To fit all my needs, with configurable back color for that buttons, so it can show a white background on the button representing the active tab, as I've configured in MyIE2 (soon it will be Maxthon).

And, this time I must excuse my English! :(

Still hoping....

I'd like to renew my plea for a way to easily distinguish the active tab. The only difference is an extremely subtle (almost invisible) difference in the tab border. I don't care if the difference is a color change, or a much more prominent border, but sometimes I have 10-15 tabs open on a side, and it really is difficult to discern which is the active one.

Thanks,
Jonathan

:) Hello Christian!
…I suggested to set the active tab font style to bold…
- Well, but why not -in addition- a colour to choose, following the user's interface-style/colours?
¤ And what about the small icons we talk about already ages ago ? :P

Unfortunately the Windows Tab control doesn't seem to support that, and I have to use this control, otherwise all skining software including Microsoft's WinXP skins wouldn't work with it...

Does it support font styles or icons? If not, then I would vote for out-of-the-box usability over skinability.
