Unrequested remembering passwords

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Unrequested remembering passwords

Post by *air »

TC remembers the password to 7z archive even when Remember LastPassword = 0. Other formats I have not tested. ZIP - Ok.

How do you test it? Note that if you leave and enter archive immediately, TC just uses cached listing, you have to enter any other archive before entering this one again...

This is wrong and does not occur with the .ZIP. Secondly, I try minimize the window of the TC before to open .7Z again. And I disable all plug-ins supports 7z before try again.
Are you can confirm or not this issue?
And yes, I just "have to enter any other archive before entering this one again", .zip. _tc is clear.

Of course nothing changes by minimizing TC window.

"RememberLastPassword=0 Set to 1 to remember the last used archive password for all other archives (packing+unpacking) until TC is closed, minimized or Windows goes to sleep" (C) TOTALCMD.CHM
:)

Anyway, my settings - RememberLastPassword=0

Are you using the internal 7zip unpacker, or a 7zip plugin which also supports creation? It's possible that the plugin itself remembers the password.

I test .7z file with disabled plugin (commented in .ini) and restarted TC. The password dialog is native in this case. Commented _after_ TC shutdown, of course :)

I cannot reproduce this problem when there are no 7zip plugins installed. Anyone else?

Yes. It is not reproduced w/o plugins. Plugins, as far as I see simply reproduced similar issue w/native 7zip and windows explorer. If archive unpacks only by TC - all ok.

I see - so I guess that these plugins store the last password internally. You can use cm_unloadplugins to unload all plugins, this should unload the password too.

No, thanks, I simple use native 7zip for pack (from explorer context menu) and unpack with TC. If I need more advanced unpack, I call it from the same explorer menu. It is not very easy, because I need to write destination path manually, but completely avoid other problems.

I confirm again, that this problem occured only with two popular 7zip plugins, so - it is а problem of authors.

7zip as is in windows explorer has this problem too. WinXP, last 7zip.
