Better FS plugins integration and more..

Post by *Sob »

I have some ideas/suggestions for TC. I searched the forum, found some similar posts, but not exactly the same.

1) Better FS plugins integration
FS plugins are great, but don't you have the feeling they are not really part of TC? Take SFTP for example - you have to go to network neighbourhood, then deal with extra settings dialog, etc. Recently I noticed starting developement of some 'ftp with ssl' plugin. I guess it means another different settings dialog.
Wouldn't it be nice to have all connections together somewhere? What about changing 'ftp connections' window to just 'connections' a making it available for FS plugins to store their setting?

2) Folders in '(ftp) connections' window
If you ever had more than 50 connections, you don't need further explanation. A simple long list is not good. But if there was some tree..

3) Operation in one panel should not lock whole TC
It's really simple for TC to get locked. For example while accessing smb shares over slow connection, or waiting for ftp to respond, etc. I think I'm not the only one who would like to let busy panel to do whatever it wants until it's ready, and meanwhile I'd like to have the rest of TC fully functional. Maybe 'one panel, one thread' approach could work? (ok, i know about problems with archivers and multiple threads, but besides that it could be possible.. or not?)

And some pictures to demonstrate, how cool could 1) and 2) be. ;)

Yes I once made the suggestion for a new plugin type called "server plugins":

Support 2) Folders in '(ftp) connections' window and 3) Operation in one panel should not lock whole TC.

For the 2, there is FTP software named FlashFXP, and its Site Manager is a very good demonstration.
