FTP reconnect WITHOUT confirmation

Post by *Plenz »

I use FTP very often, but sometimes with long breaks. Then I get disconnected by the server because after some time all those "stay alive" tricks don't work. If I want to transfer a file when the server is offline, I always have to confirm the reconnection. I would be very happy if I could switch this off. TotalCommander should reconnect "silently" and start the transfer.

I support that. This messageBox should be discardable (should have a checkbox saying "do not show this dialog the next time")

I think, this confirmation is absolutely useless. If I want to up/download a file and TC asks me for a confirmation, in which case should I answer "no"?

You miss the point - it's about a confirmation of reconnection to the ftp server, not a data transfer... It's could be very useful :!:

OK, here's the answer:

Dear Plenz
In my opinion feature called confirmation of reconnection to the ftp server could be very useful, because wen you are connected to an FTP server (even with NOOP command used) some of them are breaking/ending connection after about 3/5 minutes of inactivity. That feature could be very helpful for those, who are sending or downloading some files from/to FTP server recently... How about that???

I still don't understand why it is useful to be asked if I want to reconnect or not. In which case would it be useful to answer "no"?

"no" means: I don't want to reconnect because I changed my mind and don't want to transfer my file(s). But why...? :?

FTP confirmation

I agree - the confirmation is useless and should be optional...

That's not the point!!!

Even now TC asks before reconnecting to FTP server after lost connection - new feature should be a check box called "don't ask again", "remember my decision" or something like that...

It is my point. I am trying to find out why there is this confirmation at all.

What's your problem - if you don't like this feature, you don't need to use it... but if someone likes it, it's his business, not yours...
