Find and Copy in Lister

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Find and Copy in Lister

Post by *ttil »

It's looks like no such bug report. Or I just missed it. Sorry in this case.
Open in Lister any file. For example let's press F3 on text file with next text in it:

Code: Select all

this is a test.
Now press F7 (Find) and type test (trying to find text 'test').
Text range 'test' becomes selected (yeh, done! we found! :) ). Now press Ctrl+C to copy selected text to clipboard.
Message with text Nothing selected! appears.

Hmm it is indeed a separate highlight. It doesnt matter if cursor is on or off. Now that we have a cursor in Lister, it becomes a little annoying maybe ;-)
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

You have to select the text manually before you copy is.

The confusion arises becuse Lister unfortunately uses the same colors for highlighted found text and user selected text.

Notice that you can actually select some other text and still have your found text highlighted.

It would be nice if the color of those two items could be set separately.

You fully explained this curious "bug".
In some cases separated highlighting really useful. But...
Default behavior in this situation is that text selected, not highlighted. Check MS Word for example
So maybe mmm... discard this feature?
And one more. What behavior did we have in previous version? As now? It seems to me that in TC 6 we didn't have separated highlighting (it's because in early version I never seen such message).

So I'm too absent-minded :)

Ok, what about that?

1. Found items should be automatically marked so they can be directly copied to the clipboard. Manual selection is lost when searching anyway and would still be possible afterwards.
2. Highlight and selection colours ought to be different.

You've listed alternatives? In this case IMHO variant 1 more preferable.

Indeed selection and found text are two completely separate things...
