[bug] 2nd call to external lister does not work

Post by *menet »

Hi,

I have beginning to speek of this problem in this Universal Viewer (ATViewer) - Lister alternative entry.

I had associated UV to lister with F3 in TC but it works only one time each two tries on a text file. I have the same problem if I configure it with ALT-F3 :
1st try on a file, it is OK, I close UV with ESC.
2nd try on the same file, I see no effect, UV is not on my screen
3rd try on the same file, it is OK.

I have made another try with my current free text editor PSPad and I have the same problem. At second call the application seems to be not called and then not visible on my screen.

I have made the try with the external lister from Christian Ghisler and it seems the problem does not occurs then. :?

I have reproduced the problem with TC 6.56 and 7.0beta3 8)

Best regards

Mind trying Process Monitor to see if there are any differences between the first and the second Alt-F3?

TIA
Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Thanks for the tool that i didn't know before. :P

It logs a lot of informations in a small time.

I have put HERE a log in CSV format zipped (before zipping the file 1.62Mo for only 4 seconds 8190 lines)

The second call to ALT-F3 is only the 60 last lines, just before we see the close of the viewer.exe.
I have only done on TC : ALT-F3 on a file d:\tmp\temp\dw.log that loads UV viewer, then ESC to quit UV; then again ALT-F3 without effect.
In Process Monitor, I have logged only the File System Activity.

Try Shift+ESC (task manager) to verify whether UV viewer is still in memory after ESC, and for how long. If it only allows a single instance, then it will not start when the previous instance is still in memory.

Hi Christian,
I don't know what do you mean by Shift+ESC because it have not the wanted effect on my PC under windows XP+sp2. I do Ctrl+Alt+Del to have the Windows Task Manager.
Doing Alt-F3 under TC, I see the Universal Viewer application/viewer.exe process running. Doing ESC on UV, the application/process disappears from task manager. After that, doing again Alt-F3, UV start but it is not always the case; in some cases, the application/process don't start. :?

Does somebody encounter this type of problem ? :?:

Side issue:

The key-combination to launch TaskManager is Ctrl+Shift+ESC (so CG very likely just forgot the Ctrl-key)

2Alextp,

I suppose that you mean the option "Allow 1 copy of Total Commander at a time" ?
It is already OFF. I have tested putting it ON, but the problem is also alive. :?

2Alextp,
Sorry.
UV's: "Options - Configure - [ ] Single instance only" was already OFF.
Putting it ON just to try, the problem is also alive.
I reproduce also the problem putting my editor PSPad in Lister and I verify that it is also stopped before trying a second Alt-F3.

Maybe TC looses focus after UV/PSPad end (and Alt+F3 press doesn't go into TC)?

No, TC have the focus, trying a third time Alt-F3 when it fails the second time give each time the start of UV.

Do you start UV/PSPad with %L parameter? Maybe TC tries to delete temporary file.

2Alextp,
Thanks for all your trials to find a reason to my problem. :P
I don't use %L (I think).
I only have the following string for the default external viewer in TC Options Edit/View : c:\MyTools\Universal Viewer\Viewer.exe
