Wouldn't it be better to (also) display the number of files and directories (as in full view mode)?
I find it quite redundant to display the name of the currently highlighted file.

It currently also displays date, time, attributes. Showing also the file name next to it seems OK to me.
The number of files + dirs is shown when 1 or more entries are selected - i.e. after pressing (Shift-)Num+ for all files/dirs. Here the status bar looks the same way as in full view.
