It would be lovely if MRT could rename JPEG files according to the date/time of the photo.
I can't imagine that one would need to use both photo time and current time, so the easiest interface implementation might be a checkbox "Date/time placeholders refer to EXIF fields not current time".
Thanks!

hi
thats a good idea, but..
is there any other tool which can do such an operation? i belive that a file name is something complete different to the exif-information.
programms like ifran view can show the exif information but this is no string which can be used for renaming.
well, i am willing to learn and i woul love ist, but i dont belive it possible

There are programs which can retrieve the EXIF information (and MP3 Tags) and rename files according to this.
A handy commandline tool is here:
http://www.sentex.net/~mwandel/jhead
A GUI tool (for EXIF and MP3) can be found here (haven't used it though)

There is a concept for a fourth plguin-type for the filesearch and the MRT. Christian said that this idea in this thread is pretty smart but it's too late for TC6 and he may find some time in winter to implement it in TC 6.5

Shammat, many thanks for the reference to Mantel's Jhead. This looks like a great utility... not only renaming files configurably, but modifying the EXIF and comment info. I've been looking for a utility like this but had not yet succeeded in finding one.
Pie (Picture Information Extractor) http://www.picmeta.com/ can rename files using EXIF information, completely configurable, GUI. It also has the fastest JPEG viewer that I've ever seen; much faster than Irfan View (and it's very nice because it always responds instantly to keystrokes, so you can interrupt the display before its finished if you want to zoom or move on to the next photo. But it's not so good for comparing folders, etc, which is why it would be nice to have the rename feature right here in TC.
Also FYI PICINFO http://www.rettig.nu/e900.htm (command line, not configurable) can rename files by EXIF date/time.
I started to look at RenameMaster (from jackass) but it froze up so I didn't look more carefully. Also it's GUI and I don't need that.
Jonas, your proposal for a new plugin type is very impressive! I hope that Christian can do it in 6.5!
