TC 7.03 DirMenu shortcuts (Ctrl-D) problems

Post by *ilog »

Hello,

Here is my situation: I am a guy who prefers keyboard shortcuts rather than mouse clicks. And TC helped me so much with such a way of folder navigation. I use (used) approx. 16-18 combinations of Ctrl-D + letter/symbol. But in TC 7.03 they started misteriously dissapearing. Quick investigation showed that all shorcut descriptors in wincmd.ini after cmd10 are cut off. I.e., only 10 shortcuts are possible now. For me it's weird - I have at least 26 letters on my keyboard, plus 10 numbers, plus symbols...

Could anybody give me a clue, is this a bug or planned limitation?

Thank you!

Hello again!

Seems, the problem I recently described is slightly more complex. All the troubles began after I created subfolder Refs and added it to Ctrl-D shortcuts. But now I see that there is "&Remove current dir" with the same shortcut and ampersand. So, trying to switch to Refs folder (i.e. pressing Ctrl-D + R) I do actually remove current dir from shortcut list. So, this is not a bug for sure.

I'd formulate my question now: Will it be possible to preserve these entries from deleting in future versions? For example, to move configuration and remove menu items from there and to place them under main Configuration menu? Or, maybe, allow entry removal from "Configure..." menu only?

you can change this by using external English language file and modify the string number 1147
if you don't have this file, download petermad's alternative menu, it is include latest TC 7.03 English language file "wcmd_ext1_eng.lng"

Great!

Thank you for this tip. I will definitely take a look at these customization capabilities.

white,

Can I ask you an offtopic question? Is this a forum tradition to put license # under the tearline? Shall I (or can I) put mine into signature as well?

It is no tradition as far as I know.
If you wish you can put yours in your signature as well.

Some things can be read by the signature. It could be a way of letting Christian Ghisler know who you are, or it could be a way of letting him know that you are a registered user (not that that matters). It could be a way of showing off. It can give people an indication of how long ago you got your licence. So it can also give an indication of your experience with Total Commander.

Still quite an early number I would say. You've got more than several years of experience.

By the way. Why would Christian Ghisler use the British English spelling for the word "licence" and American English spelling for the word "color" (see American and British English spelling differences)?

Overall the English spelling used in TC looks more American than British. What spelling is intended by Christian Ghisler, American or British English?

E.g.:
1147="_Remove current dir"
to make it respond to only "_" key.

Or/and, if you only have one own entry starting with an "R", you could add an accelerator key using "&" character,
TC then opens this one and ignores the others without accelerator key. E.g. title=

I was also surprised with "licence" word (I used to spell American variant). Firstly I wrote "license", but then looked at your line and changed :)

I started using Windows Commander in 2000. Used Far before. I still keep Far in my PC, but since that time as a secondary tool.

A really valuable idea to prepend Remove with "_". Thank you!
