Can't drag-and-drop files outside the TC-window

Post by *Scuttle »

Hm...I think it has to do with Win7 x64, but I am not sure, but the problem is this:

I can't drag a file or folder outside of the borders of the Total Commander-window. When I do I "drop" everything I'm dragging.

I've tried it both with 7.5rc1 and 7.04, same behaviour

OS is Windows 7, final version, 64bit

Do you try to drag-and-drop between app launched as admin (or elevated) and app launched as user? This operation is not supported by Windows.

Doesn't matter, as soon as I drag the mousepointer outside the TC-window, it "empties".

Tried running TC as administrator and...not

It's an indication of a bad shell extension. Does the right click menu (Shift+F10) or Alt+Enter work?

Hm...nope

[edit]
Actually, right-click works, but Alt+Enter does not

Any way to tell which shellex that misbehaves?

Use ShellExView to disable one extension after another until it works correctly.

the same problem

Post by *martin.hruska »

I had the same problem. Windows 7 x64 and TC 7.50a

It was x64DisableRedirection=1. When I returned it back to x64DisableRedirection=0 the drag and drop works again. But I can't edit hosts file again without this enabled.

If there's no x64 version available soon, I will have to look for an alternative.

That's great if you found a reason.

BTW, if you need to edit hosts file frequently, just create a link to command:

Code: Select all

notepad.exe C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
This should start 64-bit notepad, so it will open your file even if x64DisableRedirection is turned off.

Also you may use folder C:\Windows\sysnative (as I remember) - that is link to your 64-bit C:\Windows\System32 in TC.

I must disagree!
Some path's are automatically excluded from redirection (see the MSDN link from this post).
In addition the search path for executables would find the SysWOW64\notepad.exe first.

But nevertheless, it's a good practice to disable redirection only when really needed.

I prefer to use %WinDir%\Sysnative\drivers\etc path to access hosts file via TC 7.50a @ Windows 7 x64 instead of touching the x64DisableRedirection

Nice to see the cause. Have the same configuration and the same problem. And sometimes right mouse on a file and then preferences didnt worked, too. Right mouse => X64 => Preferences did work.
I disabled the redirection and now both problems seems to be gone.

x64DisableRedirection=1 is a workaround for Windows XP and older. On newer versions, you should go via the SysNative directory to avoid the problems caused by this option.

64-bit?

Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
