Lister locks MP3 file

Post by *mslav »

After playing MP3 file using Lister (F3) the file is locked and cannot be deleted ("Access denied" message appears). You must exit TC and only then you can delete the file.

TC 7.50a, XP Pro SP3 Russian, TZ +3

You're using any lister multimedia plugins?
You're using some extra programs like antivirus or something else that may inject code to TC and lock file?

I checked just now - TC deleted MP3 file after viewing with lister.

No plugins, just internal Lister:

The same result without Kaspersky. I can delete the file only after closing TC.

Any other ideas?

One user had this problem because of a third party codec pack which he had installed. The error disappeared after he removed these codecs (which were playing the mp3 file instead of the internal Microsoft codec).

Thanks a lot, I'll check my codecs. I think, moderators can remove this topic.

No, it may be interesting also for other users! Please report back if you find out which codec was causing the problems. You may be able to find the codec with the free tool Graphedit from Microsoft.

I've found the source of the problem. It's Nokia PC Suite which includes its own MP3 Encoder and Decoder. During the installation of Nokia PC Suite, its MP3 decoder was set as a default MP3 decoder in the system. There are two solutions of the problem:

1. Update Nokia PC Suite to the latest version. I've installed the version 7.1.30.9 and the problem was removed.

2. Revert to the original Windows decoder (quartz.dll). I've done it even after Nokia PC Suite update to avoid any possible problems in other programs. To restore the original Windows decoder you should apply this registry patch:

http://mslav.intense.ru/tc/mp3/fix_mp3.reg

If you cannot download the patch you can make your own using Notepad:

Code: Select all

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Media Type\Extensions\.mp3]
"Media Type"="{E436EB83-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}"
"Source Filter"="{E436EBB5-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}"
"Subtype"="{E436EB87-524F-11CE-9F53-0020AF0BA770}"
By the way, GraphEdit was not helpful because it doesn't show which exactly .dll serves the selected filter.

TO MODERATORS:

Sorry, only now I've found exactly the same topic created earlier:

http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=21383

Please, combine my and above topic together. I think Impeeza, kronda and Patrick van Dijk also had some third-party codec which replaced original codec (quartz.dll) and caused the problem. Maybe it was the same Nokia codec because with that codec I also had in GraphEdit only two pins mentioned by Patrick van Dijk. The only difference is that Patrick van Dijk changed his faulty codec to another third-party codec but I reverted to the default Windows codec (quartz.dll) which is really perfect.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
