Nornal and Pro version, any such thing?

Post by *Bonkers »

I've seen references to both Total Commander 6.01 and Total Commander 6.01 Pro. Do these two separate versions in fact exist?

I tend to think not with the latter being a figment of the Pirate community.

Any comments?

Thanks in advance,
Bonkers.

hi Bonkers,

There is only one version of TC.
Pro version does not exist.

The only difference if unregistered or registered

I've also seen such versions on some sites. Usually the versions are modified by some users (there are some added things, changed dlls) so be careful it can also has some trojans
It's better to dowlnoad the version from official page.

Besides the illegal removing of the unregistered startup screen with the 1-2-3 buttons and the NOT REGISTERED text from the title bar, the only PRO feature is the added code to activate ZIP encryption. The same effect can be done by replacing the wcmzip32.dll with the CryptZip DLL.

TC has built-in CRC protection against corruption by virusses. These checks must be altered by the cracker in the PRO version. Any mistake by the cracker could cause a malfucntion in TC, leading to data loss (and if the cracker is evil, this could even be done on purpose...)

It is 09/29/2001, I think. At least that is the one I have.

Where in the WINCMD.INI do you edit? I tried the VERSION= thing, but it didn't change anything. :(

The main thing about it is it works, not date %).

B> Where in the WINCMD.INI do you edit?

I'm talking about functionality, not that useless Title Bar inscriptions. If you need "Pro" in Title Bar instead of the thing you have there now just use one of a progs for Title Bar text modification, there are a lot of them around. But it would be more functional to put e.g. current time instead of "Pro" there %).

B> I tried the VERSION= thing, but it didn't change anything.

Heh, it's a big mystery for me how "Version=" INI parameter works - it looks like it doesn't work at all %).

Actually there is one way to change Title Bar text via interface file editing, but it works only if Commander is unregistered.[/face]
