TC 7.50a under win7 - faulty scrolling using the keyboard

Post by *ericgur1 »

After a clean install of Total commander 7.50a (without any plugins). I noticed that when I press the Up or Down arrow keys, the cursor disappears and appears a second or two later. This doesn't always happen but happens frequently. Pressing the arrow key several times quickly yields the same result - cursor gone for a few seconds and returns at the correct position (looks like TC is skipping a few Draw/Paint operations).
PC wasn't under load when affect was seen.
The wincmd.ini file was copied from a previous vista64 installation.

My systems:
Windows 7 Ultimate RTM 32 bit.
QX9650 processor.
4 GB of RAM.

Does,
ClearListBackground=0 and/or, BrushForCursor=1, help at all?

ClearListBackground=0 on its own doesn't help. Adding BrushForCursor=1 seems to solve the problem (problem isn't persistent so I can't be 100% sure).
Does these setting appear in the original ini file?

No, a lot of TC's defaults that are 0 don't appear in a fresh .ini file (and possibly some of the ones that default to '1' may not be in a default ini file).
*BLINK* TC9 Added WM_COPYDATA and WM_USER queries for scripting.

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it. One user seems to have the same problem on Windows 7, but only when he turns off the icons to the left of the file names, and when using a custom color for the cursor...

The fix Balderstrom gave still works :)

I also do not show icons (next to filenames) and use a non default cursor and background colors. I can send my wincmd.ini file if it helps.

No, I have that user's ini, and it didn't help. I guess that it's a bug in the display driver. I will try to find a workaround, but in the meantime you need to either turn on the icons, or use the default cursor.

BrushForCursor=1 fixed the problem perfectly, many thanks.

Custom cursor color, icons turned off.

The BrushForCursor=1 fix is still working perfectly after 2 weeks. This should be default value for future versions.

AFAIK it is optional to move cursor down or not on select with space bar. See description of wincmd.ini parameter SpaceMovesDown in help file. BTW, using Insert key you always may select file and go to next file.

BrushForCursor=1 is the default now on Windows 7. Does anyone still get this problem?
