Manually entering the License number in Total Commander

Post by *tayderson »

Good Afternoon,

I have a new computer that does not have a Floppy drive and my registered version of Total Commander (v 6.02) is on a floppy disk. Is there any way to manually enter the License into the newest version of TC downloaded from your website?

Thank you very much.

Just put your wincmd.key file inside the TC 7.55a installation folder.

I'm sorry. I am not highly technical. Can you please outline the steps? I downloaded TC to c:\totalcmd. I don't know what it means to "put your wincmd.key file inside the TC 7.551 installation folder." I do not have access to my old hard drive as the motherboard blew and my new computer cannot read the format of the old drive. I also cannot get anything off the floppy as I have no floppy drive. I tried saving the license number in a text file named wincmd.key in the c:\totalcmd directory but that did not seem to resolve it. I'm sorry, may I please have additional details on how to accomplish this? Thank you very much.

If wincmd.key is in the floppy, try to use an old computer has floppy drive to get the file.

If you received wincmd.key by e-mail then search for it in your Inbox!

At last try to contact the author and give him details about your current registration info and ask for a new key, you can use the e-mail in the TC about dialog box.

Indeed you can send me an e-mail to newkey at ghisler dot com if you cannot find a way to access the floppy. It would help me a lot if you sent me not only your name, but also your address (current and at the time of registration) and the license number printed on the floppy disk label.

Been using TC for 10 + years and always found it to be exceptionally useful. Downloaded latest (8.5.1) TC to my new computer only to find there seems to be nowhere to enter my licence number as I used to be able to do previously to activate the full version of TC and get rid of the 1 - 2 - 3 bizzo at start. Do I really have to reconnect my old computer in order to copy my Licence number and then disconnect that and reconnect my new computer to copy the wincmd file to my TC directory? Not very comfortable and I am sure not very intuitive for new users either.
No way to get around the folderol? Cannot use Edit settings file directly or some such?

None of the above info has changed in the last 20 years so I do not expect it to change in the near future,
