file/folder names are missing

Post by *aabra1 »

I just copied my perfectly good TC 7.56 from Windows XP to a new windows 7 machine

there is a weird problem with that now on win 7.

some files and folders are not showing names.
when you highlight those files and folders the names show up.
I can see the names only when they are highlithed.
this happens for some files/folders but not all.
i cannot seem to catch the pattern and cannot see what is wrong.
can someone help?

Hello, aabra1.

I assume that the problem which you experience is caused by some of the font colors which you had defined on Windows XP for Total Commander. The foreground colors and the background colors may simply be the same on Windows 7.

Therefore I suggest you test whether this is true by launching Total Commander using a fresh.ini:

Code: Select all

\full\path\to\totalcmd.exe /I=.\fresh.ini /N
Replace the string "\full\path\to" by the appropriate drive and path name specification on your Windows 7 system.

The commandline will launch T.C. using default settings only. Next run the T.C. internal command cm_SwitchHidSys to make T.C. display hidden and system files and folders as well.

If the problem of the missing names is gone now, then some of your previous color filters for certain file types and folders need to be adjusted for Windows 7. (Configuration => Options =>Color and very likely also Configuration => Options =>Color => button [Define Colors by File Type])

Kind regards,
Karl

how do you run internal TC command cm_SwitchHidSys?
Write it in the command line and press Enter.

Or go by the menu: "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Display" -> "File display" -> "Show hidden/system files (for experts only!)"
