Many moons ago in my DOS days I had a utility that I found quite handy that provided a tree view and a summary of the number of files and the corresponding size for each folder. I've looked through the plug ins and can't see anything quite like this. I've tried to put together an example of what I can remember and what I find useful. If anyone knows of a plug in that would do this I would greatly appreciate you posting that here.

Try lister plugin VisualDirSize. It provides both a TreeView (as requested, it shows number of files and size of each folder) and a TreeMap (like SequoiaView or WinDirStat).
