Find Files using the Plugins

Post by *zz44zz »

To search for files using plugins is often necessary to add "value".
It would be good if instead of the value was also specify the plugin.

For example, that:
Plugin=EXIF | property=Width | OP = | Value=[again Plugin=EXIF property=Width].
So the result will be searched for files with the same width, regardless of how many pixels it is.

zz44zz,
You mean find duplicates using a user-specified content-plugin field? Sounds interesting.

Sorry, my English is poor.
I use Google Translator :-)

But yes, that's exactly what I mean

The idea is good indeed. I vaguely remember it was suggested long ago already but cannot find it… Anyway, support++.

It is an interesting idea, but as described in the example, this search will just find all jpg files.
It will make more sense to have Value=[Plugin=EXIF property=Width]
That way will find all files with same width and height.

Yes, it can only be used for images. (The height would have to enter separately, because the ratio width-height may vary.)

But it was just an example. The plugin MP3 would be put to use as the value of artist and the search would be all the files from one artist. The result would have to be displayed in groups, as when he uses Find duplicate files in advanced.

The propositon for having plugin field as a value means that a found value will be used as a additional search criteria.
It can be used for finding files with same values in different fields, but I can't see how that can be used for finding duplicate files.

Am I correct to think this feature would be very, very time consuming?

Wouldn't it need files indexing built-in?

Not much more consuming than existing search for duplicates, I suppose (except when using a very slow plugin).
