Color themes

Post by *VladSh »

Add please ability manage themes of colors!
I propose to allocate the settings of each theme in a separate ini-file, in wincmd.ini store only name of the current theme.
It would be convenient for portability and greatly increased the popularity of TC.

I don't know why this should be convenient for portability...
Anyway there are possibilities like RedirectSection to move some wincmd.ini file sections into external ini-files.

You will be able to share the themes without affecting the basic settings.
Copy someone else's theme (the file) and choose it in the settings - it's convenient.

I guess it's really difficult to define a exchangeable color theme.
Let's say you define some colors for the file panel and want to share these colors with someone: you also need to adapt the coloring of filetypes based on searches (ColorFilterN).
In the end you must install the same content plugins and define the referenced searches...

My impression is that developer has no time or just is not interested in such stuff.

Anyhow check this tool
http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/impom_tc_color.html
you might find it useful

Ok I respect that, why don't you use native Windows icons for folders, archives and others then? Decent and sharp looking icons would be cool.

Look how it's done in a open source text editor AkelPad (Coder-plugin).
If nothing is set (by default), then there is just taken from the operating system theme. And you can use other available themes.
Plug-ins, or rather their authors, can use a special entity of the text and background colors that are dedicated to them.

It's not the task of a content plugin(author) to define a >search but rather the task of the user to define what combination of attributes are used to define an important file group.

It does not matter. I'm talking about the idea in principle.

In principle this may be a solution for your limited use case.
In practice there will be some unresolved problems.

I do wonder how TC was able to reach such a level (after all, in practice, could be the problem) :)

You do not use color by file types and plugins don't you?
And i doubt that sharing color themes really is a strong argument when it comes to rate the usefulness of a file manager in practice.
It may be pleasant to select between some basic color themes if you install TC for the first time, but at some level you start to use the configuration possibilities of TC and every change of the basic color theme may conflict with your customization.

Kind regards
Holger
