Help: Error when trying to replace Windows Explorer

Post by *HackerTradition »

I'm using TC 7.56a on Windows 7, and I want to replace Windows Explorer with TC,
so I clicked Appearance > Replace Windows Explorer > On, then popped up a message box saying "file not found".

I have read the help documentation and googled but didn't manage to find an answer~~ Can you help me solve this? Thanks a lot! :D

1. TC can't be used as Explorer replacement since it doesn't provide any taskbar or system tray.
2. It seems that you're using some non-official TC installer since standard TC menu doesn't have any 'Appearance' menu. So probably you have only a part of that pack and file that is used for that menu item is missing.

Thanks!
1. I don't want TC to be a thorough replacement, I just want that when I click a folder, it opens in TC rather that Windows Explorer^^

2. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I'm using TC UP (Ultima Prime), which does have the "Appearance menu"^^
The problem I described in my last post occured right after a fresh installation, and I'm sure that I have installed all components needed (except for a file named "xxx/lang/xxx" <xxx means I can't remember> can't be installed since there was a odd character in its filename, I clicked "ignore" during installation; but I think the lack of a language file won't be the cause of my problem)

so can you tell me, for a "pure" TC, how to let a folder open in TC instead of Explorer?

Thanks a lot

:D

Thanks! but failed...
I pasted the all codes into NotePad, saved as TC.reg, but when I import it in Registry Editor, error window popped up: "cannot import xxx\Desktop\TC.reg: the specified file is not a registry file. You can only import registry files".

Jesus, how's this not a registry file^^?

Did you remember the first line:

Are you sure you used NotePad and not Wordpad?

Ya, I forgot to add REGEDIT4.
But after I added this, imported it using Registry Editor, but error popped up: "cannot import xxx\TC.reg: error accessing registry file".

And oh gee, BTW, after I modified the registry, when I double click a folder, it can't open, instead error pops up saying "application not found"...

Well, there is a cooperation between the language files and menues. When you switch in the TC-Options from a language the menu is changed together. Language is not literally meant - it can be all in english but different features. Since the TC-Powerpacks like TC UP (Ultima Prime) comes with heavy modified language files, belonging together with their menus, you can expect errors with a corrupted language file and either a corrupted menu-file.
Edit: More Info in the TC-Wiki...

Normally the TC falls back to its (unmodified) english language then.

It is impossible in this forum to find the error. You better ask in the TC UP - Forum for details. Please download the TC-Ultima Prime again and run the installer. Maybe the download was corrupted. Repair your Win-installation first. =)

OK, thanks a lot!
I reinstalled TC UP but this is still not solved.
I guess perhaps this feature requires additional packages.
Will read the documentation and seek for the solution, and post here if solved.
Thank you!
