Selection lost when Renaming / commenting a file

Post by *seb- »

Hi Chris, Forum,

this must be a known thing, i hope theres a workaround or maybe a fix in TC8.

I'm using the latest stable 7.56a.

When i use space to select multiple files (which i previed in Quickview), any renaming of a file or commenting of a file will result in a reload of the list and thus destroying a long time of work selecting the files with space-bar.

Is there any work around? Because its quite annoying... either i forget what i want to add to the files comments, or i forget what i want it to rename it to.
Anyway as i select the files, i want to copy them and i would to have to manage renaming in the old directory as well as in the new, same goes for comments.

Going through the file list first and renaming / commenting before selecting them for copying would mean going through it twice...

Please - if somehow possible - provide a workaround or a fix, so that selection remains active after reload of a directory (caused by rename/comment update).

Thanks and regards :-)

Changing the comment changes the directory contents (the descript.ion file), therefore the selection is lost. You can restore it with the "/" key on the numeric keypad.

Thanks for the answer!

However...
Doens't work for me => no Numpad-/ key here because i'm using a laptop.

Setting virtual Numpad on and typing the divide button, doesnt help either.

Any other way? Is there a command that can be bound to a key/combination?

no Numpad-/ key here because i'm using a laptop.
Then make a shortcut key or a buttonbar button for the command: cm_RestoreSelection - or use the menu: "Mark" -> "Restore Selection"

AAHhh Thank you very much, that was exactly what i was searching for.

I'd really appreciate if this was somehow automatic. I.e. when there is files selected, the directory is relisted -> Automatic restore selection.....

But its okay, my problem is solved for the moment i guess..

Thank you all.

regards

P.S.: I just found some more features "hidden" in the Mark Menu, that i didn't know existed. TC has a lot of very useful stuff ;)

Does not work for me. Num / does not restore the selection, neither does the cm_RestoreSelection command.

Code: Select all

[Configuration]
WatchDirs=51
ShowHiddenSystem=1

Theres a save selection menu in menu "MARK". Does it work for you when you use this first?

It works for me since i found out about the Mark -> Restore Selection (i dont need the alias/command for it, doesnt happen too much that i'd need a hotkey for it).

Yes, that is the tip, but not automatic unfortunately.
Thanks anyway.
