Background copy window (suggestion)

Post by *MS.Blueberry »

Hi all ! A suggestion : sometimes I send in background a long copy operation but in this case, I can't see anymore file details (because string is too long to fit in the small windows. So sometimes), I'd like to reverse this operatrion (so ask to put it in foreground) to see the name of the current copied file.
So, the best would be, for my point of view, to have a bigger but unique background window more detailled with source name, target name, size .. and with one progress bar for each copy process in background. More or less like Firefox download manager window.
It would be convenient I think.

I think that better way is to show tooltip with operation details on hovering background operation window with mouse .

I don't think this can be done. AFAICR, Christian has explained in the past that when an operation is put in the background, another thread is started and it's not possible to stop the thread and transfer the operation back to the main window without starting it from the beginning. Search the forum, you may find a relevant post.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

Now "Total Commander 8.0 beta 1" have an:
Enhanced progress dialog handling: Progress is now handled asynchronously, so it will no longer slow down any file operations. Especially the copying, moving and deleting of many small files should be much faster now. Also the number of files and bytes handled and the total files/bytes are shown now
that show useful information.
But when the operation is moved to the background, the related progress dialog loose most of these information.
I would like that:
  • - The background dialog will show all information of foreground dialog
    - The background dialog can be minimized to the system tray with a tray icon showing the total progress (that is the same behavior of the foreground window)
