Portable Devices are not show in TC

Post by *Jesahl »

Hi Forum
I connect my Nicon S8200 Camera to my pc by an usb cable. But can not see the camera as a"drive" i TC.

When I open "Whindows Explorer" can I seen the Camera as a "Portable Devices". The Camera has no drive letter which I guess is the reason why TC can not see it.

The problem is mentioned in this thread http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=33621&highlight=portable+device where the program USBDLM is discussed. But the case is about a portal version of TC.

My question is therefore
Is it correct that I have to give the Camera a drive letter to see it in TC?
If so is the program USBDLM an easy way to do it or are there other ways.

You can't access directly to devices w/o drive letter. But you can access them via virtual folders. Try 'Commands - Open Desktop folder' to open virtual desktop and search your device there just like in Explorer. Also there are other commands that open virtual folders (cm_OpenDrives etc), and you can get access to desktop via breadcrumb bar (small triangle at the left of both file panel headers).

Accessing to devices via virtual folders is slow and limited but it works.

Thanks a lot for your advice, MVV.

I always wanted to access to my devices (digital camera and MP3 Player) thru TC but couldn't. Didn't know that there is a way to do it (is slow and incomplete, but it works, just as you said).

:)
I Love Total Commander!

'Commands - Open Desktop folder' option is alright, but is there some way to make a shortcut to access this portable devices?

//edit
Never mind, I remembered I can just lock the tab when I'm on portable device.

I think you can't make such shortcut since these devices do not have any "path" that may be followed. Path that TC displays is only an illusion.
Since these devices are under \\My Computer, you only can make a shortcut to \\My Computer for faster access: just create a button or hotlist item with cm_OpenDrives command.
