Accessing my Galaxy Nexus

Post by *rickaltman »

When I USB-connect my smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Windows promptly displays a file window, allowing me to copy and access files freely. I wouild dearly love to be able to do that from within Total Commander. It is not a network drive and no drive letter is assigned to it, so it is not immediately obvious to me if/how this would work.

Anyone?

Hello, Rick.

Chances are that inside T.C. you can access your Galaxy this way: Menu item "Commands" => "Open Desktop Folder". From there go to "Computer". If you are lucky your Galaxy will be visible.

Chances are, too, you may have to have a peek at this thread, too: Reaching Galaxy Tab from TC. It suggests that a particular plugin may be needed in order to access your Galaxy from inisde Total Commander.

Kind regards,

Follow-up question: Now that I know that TC can reach it, how can I automate it? Can I create a Start Menu item for it?

Yes, the command is cm_opendrives to go to "My Computer". There is unfortunately no way to go directly to your device.

Does it work the same way with an iPad?

Does it work the same way with an iPad? :)

Particularly "The iPad" (I think that is what they are calling iPad 3) :)

Then there is my camera. I notice that Windows can see my Canon EOS SLR but always wondered if TC could? :?

Hello, louwin.

It is generally a bad habit to hijack somebody else's thread in particular, because
+ actually your questions are totally unrelated to Galaxy Nexus,
+ the Galaxy Nexus question has been answered,
+ you ask about iPAD 3
+ you ask about your camera Canon EOS SLR

So instead of hijacking this thread, the right thing to do would be opening two new threads:
+ one where you ask your question(s) about accessing iPAD3 from inside T.C.
+ one where you ask about accessing your camera Canon EOS SLR

Accessing all 3 devices, Galaxy, iPad 3, Canon camera are technically speaking unrelated issues and deserve their own threads each.

As the thread owner, I hereby give permission for it to be hijacked. I am interested in all of these discussions and there is quite a bit of synergy around the concept of having TC access modern devices.

I think it would add to the software's value significantly if I could create a Start Menu item to take me to each of my camera, iPad, smartphone, etc.

Hi, Rick.

Hijacking is bad style nevertheless. I know a few forums where the moderators immediately split off the hijacking posts and put them in their own threads.

Anyway.

Hi, louwin.

Basically, what applies to the Galaxy Nexus should apply to your iPad as well. Provided it can be accessed inside Explorer under "(My) computer", inside T.C. it should be accessible by using cm_OpenDesktop and from there going to Computer. cf. here.

Whereas there seems to be a dedicated iPod plugin available on Totalcmd.net, there seems to be no plugin for iPad. And the forum search did not return too many results when searchung for the term iPad. The search result may be correct or just be caused by forum search functions being inferior to Google search.

apologies and thanks

First I apologise. I had no intention of hijacking the discussion, just extending it.

rickaltman, thanks for your permission. You have the same aim of extending the discussion.

Nexus, iPad, Kindle etc - I hope the article applies to them all?

Again, apologies and "thanks for the fish" :D
