7.56a and higher versions: problem with backgroud operations

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

7.56a and higher versions: problem with backgroud operations

Post by *fleggy »

Hello,

I still have problems with getting the target panel content while a backround/queue copy operation is in progress. Turning on the option EXE/LNK not on net helped a little but even with this option the browsing in target panel is almost impossible. I've tested WiFi (802.11n) and wired 1Gb connection. I've copied some files from Dell Latitude E6510 to my PC via Asus RT-N56U(WiFi) or 3Com switch (1Gb). Window 7 64 Ultimate on both PC. I use UNC paths, the .INI was default during tests.

1Gb (EXE not on net ON) - usable, but still slow
1Gb (EXE not on net OFF) - very unresponsive
WiFi (EXE not on net ON) - very unresponsive
WiFi (EXE not on net OFF) - unusable

Is there anything what can I do to improve browsing in the net target panel during backgroung/queue operations? Now I am not able to take advantages of these operations in network environment :(

Thank you
Tomas

EDIT: I have network autotuning off because of stability.

You can try to limit the transfer speed when using F5 - F2 (background transfer manager).

This reminds me to an old thread where the power management of the laptop was a reason for the slow reading of network directories:

@HolgerK> thanks for your idea but I don't think that PM is the culprit. My network performance in TC is great as long as there is no background copy.

@ghisler> I'll try, thanks. Is it possible to give a lower priority to background processes to get better response from the main window? It really seams that background copy allocates all bandwidth for itself and the main process suffers from insufficient network resources.

Hello,

setting speed limit helps a little but it seem that the speed limit is often ignored at least in 64bit beta 24. See the picture Image: http://i39.tinypic.com/10sahbp.png

Thanks, Tomas

Where does the tooltip in front of the BTM come from?

Strange, never seen this in BTM (win7 aero)
Seems to be a windows classic theme specific feature.

Thanks (and sorry for OT)

After some fiddling with router and NIC settings I can work during background operations at last. But Speed limit is a must. Thanks again for that tip.
