Sorting no longer case sensitive since TC7.51 beta 1
At least since Windows Commander 3.50 released in 1998 up until Total Commander 7.50a released in 2009, sorting by name was in fact sorting by name and sorting by case. See:

Since Total Commander 7.51 beta 1 released in 2010 this is no longer the case. See:

Since it worked for so long and since I cannot find the reason for the change in 7.51 beta 1 in the list of changes, I assume for now it is a bug.

Have you looked at the setting "Display -> File Display -> Sort method"?

Of all the planets I've been to, this one is my favorite.
Maybe the screenshots shows an Unix FTP-server...How do you create on a Windows-System Folder and Files with the same name?

Yes. It is doesn't seem relevant.Aezay wrote:Have you looked at the setting "Display -> File Display -> Sort method"?
As you may have noticed by the display of the attributes, the screenshots were taken from an ftp folder. The FTP client was added in Windows Commander 3.50, so support for non DOS/windows folders was already implemented even then.Sir_SiLvA wrote:2white

It sure does here (TC 7.56a) - If I use "Strictly by numeric character code" or "Natural sorting: by character code and numbers" I get the same result for dirs as you do in http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/9561/ftpsort2009tc750a.png - see http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/sorting.pngPosted: 01-06-2012 10:05:20 Post subject:

Here Aaa goes between aaa and AaA with "Natural sorting: by character code and numbers".

Exactly which version of TC are you currently testing with?

As I wrote: I tested with TC 7.56a and "Natural sorting: by character code and numbers".What versions and sort methods did you test?
But here are screenshots with TC 8.0 x86 under Windows XP:

http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/sorting2.png
http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/sorting3.png
http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/sorting4.png
The reason why the aaa's are last in sorting1 and sorting 4 (alphabetical) is that in Danish aa = å and AA = Å - So aa is considered one character and that character is the last in the alphabet.
Here's your whole list:

I have also testet with TC 8.0 x86 and x64 both under Windows 7 x64 - same results.

I found out the reason. It depends on the order of the raw file list sent by the server (press Alt+Enter). I got a different result since version Total Commander 7.51 beta 1 because of the following change:
So I assumed wrongly that TC was sorting by case. There is no bug
When I disable MLSD I get the same results.HISTORY.TXT wrote:13.01.10 Added: FTP: Support for MLSD command (machine list), can be disabled separately by server (default=auto-detect)
