Total Commander 8.0, 32 bit on Windows 7 Enterprise
I wanted to change the association of PS files with Files | Associate With. However, when I selected another item in the list and clicked OK and then opened the window again, the previous item was still selected.
When I changed the association with Windows Explorer, it worked.
Association with application could not be changed

This happens when you have changed the association before with the "Open with" dialog of the right click menu. Windows will then add an association in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.ext
which CANNOT be changed by any program. You can check the permissions of the key with regedit, but you cannot change it. The idea is that installers will be prohibited from changing user-defined associations.
So if you have such a problematic association, you can only change it by right clicking on the file and choosing "open with".
