Suggestion: Additional "Open file" option (LAN)

Post by *gewone »

Greets!

I love Total Commander. Been using it for my PC since the 90's, and when I heard it was on Android I was thrilled. However, now I've stumbled across one thing that unfortunately forces me to (also) use ES File Explorer; i.e. one thing where Total Commander falls short.

In short, I have some media files on my network that is encapsulated in the stream-friendly Matroska format. Now, if I use ES Explorer, open up my LAN and get to the place where the MKV lies, I can just click the file and pick any stream-friendly media player (e.g. MX Player), and it will start streaming the media file.

However, in Total Commander, I can't simply click the file; I need to long-press it, where I get the the two options "Download+Open with" plus "Download+Edit", whereas both these options starts downloading the entire file, which doesn't let me actually stream it. Of course, I'm using the LAN plugin. It could be that it's actually not Ghisler (but someone else) who's developing this very plugin, but in that case I can only hope for him/her/them to read this thread.

Cheers!

Oh, yes.
I wonder too, why this feature is only possible with the (great) ES File Explorer.
Totalcmd should could do this as well!

Streaming is supported with TC2 beta 2, but it may not work yet with MKV (please test it, I don't have a player capable of playing MKV).

It doesn't work. Is saying: D
as Video kann nicht wieder gegeben werden.
But is working with ES.
I use MX player and totalcmd 2.beta2
I long click on the video and select "abspielen in Vordergrund“. Simple click does do nothing.
Totalcmd lan 1.02
Frank with SGS2 on OS 2.3.5

Which player starts when you choose "abspielen im vordergrund"?

As I say: "I use MX player and totalcmd 2.beta2 "
I can choose it, so I choose MX.

TC starts a small HTTP server and passes the URL to the launched player. This works fine here in my tests. Maybe you have set the option to close delete forms when they become invisible, so the HTTP server would stop when your player gets the focus.

Sorry, I just saw that you are using the release version of the plugin:
Totalcmd lan 1.02
Streaming is only supported by the beta version, which isn't in the store yet. To install it, tap on the green plus button in TC/Android in the home folder. Then, on the plugin download page, scroll to the bottom and tap on "beta plugins" at the bottom.
