How do I toggle back from Tree to file list?

Post by *Fidcal »

Newbie on trial. I tried every option in the show menu, checked all the buttons, searched the help, joined this forum, searched the wiki, searched the forum, can't find the answer.

I clicked 'tree' in the show menu and got a tree view. Fine. Clicked Tree again to toggle back but that doesn't work. How do I get back to a file list? Things I've looked for on buttons and menus and help etc.....

File List
Show Files
List Files
Display files
Details list
Files only

How do I fell that tree? I'm stumped. ;)

Map the command "cm_ToggleSeparateTree1" to a button.
As the name says, it toogles the tree on/off

Thanks for fast reply! Appreciate it.

But seriously? by default, TC can switch to tree mode but there's no way to ever see files again without the user creating a new button? Sorry, I don't believe it. There has to be a switch, button, or menu option somewhere or how can anyone access files? I'm sure every new user will click tree in the first half an hour of exploration like I did.

Meanwhile, if I want to continue trialling TC for a second half an hour I have no choice but to search how to create a new button so this file manager can display files?

You see all files even with the tree mode on !
So what is your problem ?
If you don't like to create buttons or customize menus TC may not be the right tool for you.

There are packages available to make the hundrets of available TC functions available in extented menus and button bars.

Fidcal, Show menu provides items to switching view modes: Brief, Full, Tree, etc...
In order to switch from Tree to Brief, Full or some else simply choose corresponding item... Or use its hotkey (Ctrl+F1 - brief, Ctrl+F2 - full, Ctrl+F8 - tree). Theese items don't toggle mode, they only switch it (some others work as toggles but not theese).

Thanks MVV. The problem was that when I selected Tree that the tree appeared in the right panel whereas I wanted it in the left. I guessed it goes to the currently selected so I repeated and finished up with two trees and no files at all! That was the predicament.

I then worked down the show menu from tree down I think then the buttons. Having only used the program for half an hour, the terms full and brief at the top meant nothing to me - I was looking for something to do with files - so I didn't perceive full and brief as relevant. As I said in my previous post, I was sure there must be a way - just not intuitive to a complete beginner. I'd recommend those menu items be something like Show - Files: detailed, and Files: brief.

Yeah, two trees look funny. But you can enable four trees by enabling two separate trees. :D

Maybe you're right, it would be logical to change 'Brief' and 'Full' to something more descriptive, especially when menu is named 'Show' and not 'View'. You can create corresponding topic here.
