Hightlight key? vs Enter key

Post by *windunce »

Windows/System32 contains 3344 files.

I want to highlight mmres.dll to open that file in notepad.

I begin typing [searching?] and very soon mmres.dll is the ONLY
file listed in the command prompt pop-up.

I hint Enter and it pastes the file into the command prompt.

Now what?

If I hit enter it tries to execute the file.
With the resultant "Error executing program! [31]"

What key do I tap to simply 'goto / highlight' the found file?

Command line executes commands as is, it can't be used to edit DLLs with editor if no association exists.

Quick search is what you need. But if quick search starts with some key combo, by default typed keys are transferred to command line. Open Configuration - Options, Quick Search and choose desired way of jumping to file. Ones with search dialog are more powerful since they allow to loop through items that match entered phrase, also you can enable filtering to hide unmatched items.

Also you can set another hotkeys for opening quick search dialog (and for any other function) using Configuration - Options, Misc dialog.

This means you have activated quick filter, which is OK so far.

Press ESC to close Filter box and space bar to select entry or just F4 to open the file in assigned editor.

sqa_wizard,

This means windunce is typing into the command line.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Heya!

Thanks MVV, sqa_wizard and Hacker.

I had ALWAYS overlooked "Configuration/Quick Search.

Yup, my screen name is very applicable. WinDUNCE!

Dotted each one, one at a time, then hit apply.

Nope...nope...nope....YUP!

"Letters-with seach dialog."

That was the ticket. Worked as expected and amazingly fast. Great tip guys!

Dang, had this great program for ??? 10 years or more and never made the connection.

Thank you all for the enlightenment.

Cheers
