View encrypted archive content.

Post by *avada »

Hi!
Ever since the password prompt was replaced by a simple in-content notification it's impossible to view the archive content. One can only extract it. This also means that one can't choose which files folders to extract.

My suggestion would be to add a similar entry to the notification that prompts for the password if we press enter on it so we can view the files.

This was never replaced - you probably switched from RAR archives with encrypted data to RAR archives where the file names are encrypted too. TC cannot list file names in RAR archives when these names are encrypted.

ghisler,
I think he asks to add support for reading contents of archives with encrypted headers... UnRAR.dll should allow this, you only need to set password before reading second header if the first one (main header) tells that the headers are encrypted (MHD_PASSWORD flag). It would be good to learn TC to ask password automatically on archive enter or on F2 inside archives with "<Encrypted -> F2/F5>" hint (it may be configurable).

AFAIR, <Encrypted -> F2/F5> "dir" was added because TC could ask for password of encrypted archives with encrypted headers during operations like search.

I can also suggest to add "enter password" function to the Quick Serach (Ctrl+S) field to use it that way when user inside archive with <Encrypted -> F2/F5> virtual item. Alternatively, I already suggested secured sessions with the possibility to store passwords for archives in TC's password-store to auto-enter them during that secure session: http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=25506

I totally forgot about this. (And email notifications are not working)

I'm kind of fuzzy, but I think what I meant was that TC used to prompt for a password when opening an encrypted rar with encrypted header and then show the files normally. TC also remembered the password for a while.

But now I only have the notification which does nothing and no way to preview the files and choose which to extract with TC.

PS.:
With 7z (having the plugin installed of course) TC functions exactly as it did with rar until the change.

But why would it be necessary to disable it for the case when one opens the archives manually?
