Post by *raytc »

What is the best way to migrate TC from a win xp 32 bits system to a win8 64 bits system?

Are the ini files compatible?

I use these programs with TC:

are they compatible?

I have also a lot of plugins.

TC does not really need any installation. You can just copy your TC directory with all plugins and it will run.
For details about backup your configuration (just in case) see TC wiki
Are the ini files compatible?
Yes

Regarding compatibility of plugins:

If you use the TC 32-bit on your 64-bit OS, there is no difference.
=> full compatible

If you use the TC 64-bit on your 64-bit OS, you need 64-bit plugins:
=> Have a look at the TC wiki

Since you use a lot of plugins, I would recommend that you keep using the 32-bit version for now, or install both. You can then update your plugins and switch over to 64-bit TC once your most used plugins have been ported.

I'm installing a trial version of TC. Since my laptop is 64-bits (Windows 7), is it preferable for me to install the 64-bit version? Other than multiple plugins, is there any reason to choose the 32-bit over the 64-bit version?

There is a thread somewhere on this forum which discusses this in detail. But for the average user, there is no big difference between 32-bit and 64-bit. I recommend that you install both with the combined installer, then use the 64-bit version. You can then still switch to the 32-bit easily, keeping all your settings, if you encounter any problems.
