Log file writing prevented by Logviewer Pro

Post by *SkipR »

I tried using Logviewer Pro (http://www.uvviewsoft.com/logviewer/) to watch the active total commander log file. As soon as I start Logviewer Pro watching for new lines at end of the active total commander log it stops any new log lines going to that file. It will only start again after restarting total commander.

I have used "Logviewer Pro" on other applications and it does not interfere with logging in those applications. The total commander log writing seems to be unusual in some way. Can anyone explain this behavior?

I have stopped using it now that I know it stuffs up logging, but I think total commander should issue a pop up message if the write to log file is not working.

Tested TC v8.01 + win xp sp2 (both 32bit)

@ehab - Thanks for the tip I just tested the ver 1.5 and it works fine. That tool is better than the one I was using for general log watching. That solves my real time log watching problem. I also tried https://sites.google.com/site/ultratceditors/tc_log_viewer mentioned in other postings and it has a great layout for Total Commander log file but it has no watch file "tail" option.

I still think some sort of user warning needs to be made when logging is failing.
