Would it be possible to make a File System .WFX plugin that would allow browsing Start Menu.
That would be usefull for Windows 8 (and future windows versions) that doesn't have start menu at all, but also allow access to start menu in a commander way on older windows versions.
I know I can access Start Menu in user folder but it is not handy as it is deep in folder structure and also (even if I make a shortcut to that) there are actually two folders for that: one in user and the other in all users directory and you have to browse both of them as applications are either in one or the other.

robertmo,
Actually you can add custom toolbar onto your Win8 taskbar for Start menu folder. And then disable titles and reduce bar width. So little '>>' button will appear on this bar that will allow to view that bar as popup menu, just like in old good Windows 2K/XP. Yes, there are two folders for Start menu but you can add two panels. Just give it a try, it will be faster than waiting for plugin.
