Make the vertical splitter / divider pane wider?

Hullo.

Is there any way to do this, i.e. to make the dragable splitter pane between the file lists wider (i.e. take up more pixels)?

Inspired by an old Amiga file manager (Does anyone here remember its name? - I think it was something short, like CLI), I love to have a vertical button bar in that position between the file lists - I find this more convenient than a horizontal button bar at the top. I create this bar with a third-party application (PowerPro), but it tends to cover part of the information (file attributes etc.) in the left-hand file list. If I could make the splitter wider, I'd have a safe place to put it.
