Multi Rename: get new files names from a list

Post by *Andre Linoge »

Goodday.

I am trying to rename a bunch of files, using the Multi-rename tool, and the option "rename files from list".

Several times, however, i get an errormessage that notes
"File contains wrong number of lines, 106 should be 107".

(Note that 106 is the number of files i like to rename.)

Can somebody, tell me please, what am i doing wrong here??

TIA
Andre Linoge

Maybe the text file contains an extra (empty) line?

MRT ignores empty lines and the error message indicates that there's a line missing. Try "Edit names..." and compare the files.
Make sure to change the editor from Notepad to something usable with line numbers like Notepad2.

Try the menu item "Edit names", this opens the original names in a text file. If you have Excel or OpenOffice calc, you can paste the original names in one column and the new ones in another column. This way you can see quickly where a name is missing.

I meant: an empty line at the end of the file. With such empty lines I sometimes have similar problems as Andre Linoge.
