Better command prompt support

Post by *bloodlust8 »

Is it possible to improve total commanders command prompt capability.

Possibly a advanced script support, for example have a plugin that add calculator support in it. I vaguely record that there was a discussion about this.

Also, I've noticed that cool things that used to work on xp (like msconfig) don't work any more. Am I correct at guessing that this has got something todo with vista 2 removing some environment features?

Why should GUI application like TC support command line calculator? GUI applications can't write anything to console.

MsConfig may be available from C:\Windows\SysNative folder if you have 64-bit OS.

MVV is probably right. If you are using TCx32 on 64b version of Windows, it doesn't see files stored in x64-exclusive folders like %SystemRoot%\System32. msconfig.exe is such example. Maybe you could try to add that folder to your %Path% variable, but I wouldn't risk that - there might be some collisions with contents of %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64.
Other solution is to use TCx64.

Second, to what are you referring as "vista 2"? I have never heard such term before. If you meant Win8, please be more polite - I actually think Win8 is absolutely superior to WinXP, yet I don't go around calling it names. And by the way, the behavior mentioned in the previous paragraph exists in WinXP x64 as well. So there is no change.

And last, but the most important - I would actually welcome an integrated command prompt. I mean with output and history and all. I don't know, if it is possible or not, but I'd like it. And even more, if I could choose, what command interpreter TC would be using. E.g. cmd.exe by default, but switchable for powershell.exe.

I consider the StartScreen the single best new feature. I haven't used the old menu since the integration of Windows Search - it was way too cluttered and it was much easier to just search for the app (and it searches for all apps/settings, not just those listed in the menu). With StartScreen, I can see much more apps at a single glance, while still keeping them nicely grouped. But OK, everyone has its own preferences. :)

To run msconfig.exe from TC 32bit under 64 bit OS you can use:

%windir%\sysnative\msconfig.exe

And TC has to be running in elevated state.
