Connect to smartphone via USB link?

Post by *gthomps5 »

I simply want to see the memory in my smartphone when plugged in via its USB cable, like I do with my camera etc (NB this is not USB link), For other devices it appears as another drive letter and all is easy. Why is my smart phone (Samsung Android) any different?..Glen

Further info - My device does appear in Windows Explorer (as GT-i9000) and I can drag files from there to Totalcmd but I would prefer to do the whole job in Totalcmd if possible. Then I would have the compares etc that Totalcmd does so well.

Try and run the internal command cm_OpenDrives from TC's command line, and see if you device turns up in the list.

Many thanks! - cm_OpenDrives does indeed bring up my GT-i9000 drive (as well as the others).
Now a minor follow-up query. Totalcmd does not show the size, time or date for the files on the phone (with Show, Full), but after I copy them to my hard drive they do have the correct size, time and date. Looks like a problem but a minor one. It does prevent me from doing useful directory comparisons.

Does Windows Explorer show size, time or date for the files on the phone?

Yes, Windows Explorer shows the date. time and size of the files. Totalcmd copies them OK but doesn't show them directly on the phone device window.

Hmm, I don't have a smartphone, but I just tested with my old Nokia 3110c cellphone. TC also don't show size, time or date for the files on this phone. It does show time for the folders though.

This is a known problem which will be fixed in the next version. TC has to use a different method than for network folders to request this data.

That will be good. Although it is only a minor problem to me, it does stop me doing my usual comparisons between current and backup directories.

TC Thumbnail view

Post by *wowtotaly »

Hi master :),
i think i have the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy s4.
I can see the files there through TC, but not its details.
the problem is affecting probably also to the "Show->Thumbnail view" - i can't see the pictures view, untill i copy the folder content to a local folder on PC.
another problem here is with the copy command - I can't copy single files, only total folder. do you know anything about this ?

thanks and best regards to anyone here :)

I also had galaxy S before, and had no problems with it also.
the samsung galaxy s4 behave like a network folder, and like mentioned above it seems that TC has a known issue with this, if i understand it right..

Hi petermad,

I know that this post is there since a couple of years, but it's only now that I decide to solve my problems of viewing data's from smartphone... THX for your command line, it's working well. And to be more easyly, i added like a Thumb folder 8) .

Regarding the probs of file size, its working for me under Huawei P8 and TC 8.52a.
