Would it be possible to use a slightly different color for folder icons when the folder is not empty? The idea is to be able to distinguish, at first glance, in a set of directories the ones that contain files from the ones that are empty.

In that case you need to download DirSizeCalc, create a saved search using an appropriate field and assign a custom color to it using Define colors by file type.
