Why lowercase on drive combobox bar?

The drive combobox bar has at the right of the combobox, the label of the drive and the free/total space. Why the drive label is always in lowercase? Why not display the drive label as is in reality?

I dare to say this is an ancient issue. In Windows 3 era with FAT16 all names of files, directories (now known as folders) and disc labels were stored as UPPERCASE but shown as lowercase. Maybe it would be a good idea to change this behaviour to modern times.

This should be configurable. For example, the "i" letter is more convenient to read being lowercase, because the "I" looks like pipe "|", one "1", and lowercase "L". Opposite, the "L" letter looks better being uppercase. So, if I have an "i" drive and don't have an "L" drive, I prerfer lowercase, and vice versa.

While in principle i agree with you, i don't think it's worth the trouble (even if it's little). The same could apply to other places (i.e. inside the combobox list) where the drive description appears. It took years of nagging by many people to persuade Christian to add my two favorite INI options, DrivesShowUpcase and DrivesExportUpcase, i don't think he would go for such an INI option which - after all - is not that important.

I think i'd support theosdikaios's statement:

After all, inside the dropdown drive combobox, the drive label is mixed low-upper case, as the user has defined it. IMO the same should be shown in the combobox bar too.

I wonder if there's any chance of seeing this changed in 8.50. I imagine it would be a trivial change...

A comment from Christian perhaps?

Lowercase labels are for minimizing label lengths. It was recently mentioned in some other topic.

Ah. Thanks for the info. Seems a little pointless though. The only other thing in the same line are the occupied/free space and with today's wide screens, there is almost always enough room to display all of them, even if the space formats are in bytes, like in my setup.

Anyway...
