Unpack corrupt / partial Archives => extract files partia

Post by *seb- »

Hi,

i dont really know how to phrase this problem so it might be that it was discussed alreadyd and i did not find the thread - my apologies!

When downloading splitted archives, i.e. the archives looks like

archive.part1.rar
archive.part2.rar
archive.part3.rar

and there are files which are spanning over multiple archive-parts, TC can't unpack them and will delete the partial file.

When i use 7zip (portable), it will also complain that the archive is corrupt and crc check is not succesful, but at least it leaves the partial file in the place where i wanted to extract it.
So at least i can use the partial file when extracting with 7zip.

Any chance to make TC behave the same way?

I installed 7zip and Total7zip wcx plugins, but it does not quite do what i want. Is there a need to change some settings?
Anyone accomplished this?

It doesn't happen very often but it bothers me having to use 7zip-portable then, instead of being able to do it with TC directly ;-)

thanks for any suggestion!

You can use the full WinRar as extractor and set it to keep broken files.
Set it under Packers and uncheck "use internal un-rar".

I don't think TC can or should keep broken files. I most case these are useless and the problem might confuse or be overlooked by inexperienced users.

as i wrote 7zip does it as well... i prefer the free 7zip over the commercial winrar.

I think it should offer the possibility, at least, it it could, it should ask what to do....

might become handy when recovering files....

Currently, TC has the "Keep damaged files (bad CRC)" option, but only for ZIP files. I don't know if it is planned to add such an option for other archive formats (well, this would be useful...).

I think some unpacking libraries simply do not provide such option.

That sounds like what i was looking for, but it does not force TC to behave like i want...

:-(

seems like i need to stick to 7zip for a while...

thx to all anyway.
