I think it might help if you were able to see for yourself how Windows 8.1 "This PC" folder navigation behaves, because of the difficulties you seem to have with the written language. If you can, please see how "This PC" folder on Windows 8.1 works.

Once again: it opens local user Desktop folder, yet both "Up" and "Back" buttons lead to "This PC".

I don't need windows 8.1 to reproduce such illogical behavior of Explorer.

Win7: <Win+E>, Navigate: Desktop -> <Username> -> Desktop
- Explorer shows in path bar: "<Username> > Desktop"
- Press <F4> and you see the physical path "C:\Users\<Username>\Dektop"
- Press <Alt +Up> twice and you are again inside Desktop while in truth the physical grand parent of the personal desktop is in fact "C:\Users\"

Win7: <Win+E>, Navigate: Desktop -> Computer -> C:\ -> Users -> <Username> -> Desktop
- Explorer shows in path bar: "Computer > C: > Users > <Username> > Desktop"
- Press <F4> and you see the physical path "C:\Users\<Username>\Dektop"
- Press <Alt +Up> twice and you are in "Computer > C: > Users"

You see: Starting from the same physical path, press <Alt+up> twice and you end up in two different locations.

TC is not an Explorer-Clone.

The Alt+"UP" Navigation in Explorer is bound to the Explorer breadcrumb path, while TC's "Goto Parent" is bound to the physical path.

If TC shows a physical path in path bar, you can be sure that cm_gotoParent([..]) brings you to the parent directory!

But the real question is why your TC (and Explorer) shows the personal Desktop if you navigate via "This PC -> Desktop" and petermad's windows installation seems to show the virtual Desktop!
Could it be that both of you are using a different approach to go to Desktop?
Or is your Desktop (as Explorer child of "This PC") simply broken?

Rather how do we get to "\\This PC" which is somewhat different from "\\Computer" in Windows 7 which again is different form "\\My Computer" in Windows XP.

I can get to "This PC" in several different ways, but it behaves the same once I am there:

1. Alt+F1 -> + Computer (drive overview)
2. Breadcrumb arrow down -> This PC
3. Enable [..] in root. C:\ -> doubleclick [..]
4. Execute cm_OpenDrives from Menu, Buttonbar or Shortcut
5. CD ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} from a Button or a User command.

Once I am in \\This PC in Windows 8.1 I see all assigned drive letters just like in Windows 7, but furthermore I see some folders:
[Desktop]
[Documents]
[Downloads]
[Music]
[Pictures]
[Videos]

If I doubleclick on for example [Desktop] I get to \\Desktop (this it what is shown in the breadcrumb bar / current directory bar) - but this folder only shows the content of C:\Users\Username\Desktop - it does NOT show the full content of the \\Desktop as you see it when you use cm_OpenDesktop ! It is really interesting why your virtual desktop folder shows only current user's objects instead of mixing them with all users' objects... Virtual desktop in Win7 shows expected mix, and stupid Explorer option to show hidden/system files applies to it.

It is also peculiar that it shows up as \\Skrivebord (= \\Desktop) both when accessed via \\This PC and via cm_OpenDesktop - although the content is not the same.

I only use TC and my daily file management tasks in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are almost never happen on the top level entries discussed here.
So wheres the beef

- The private or the virtual one?

Or in other words: does TC show the wrong name ("\\Desktop") or the wrong content?

Like I said, on my Windows 8.1 it opens local user Desktop folder (which is empty in my case). And then both "Up" and "Back" buttons lead to "This PC".

If you press "Up" when you are in "This PC" folder, then it goes to virtual Desktop folder, which contains "This PC", "Network", etc.

Then we could finally determine that TC shows the right content (users desktop) but the wrong path(virtual desktop).
