Can I save results of compare by content?

Post by *larsanders »

In the Compare contents window, there is a save button, but I don't detect any result when pushing it.

I would like to save the displayed results as e.g. a two-column table in an rtf file, keeping the colour of the text.

Hello larsanders,
Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Hello Roman

Ctrl+A doesn't work.
However I can mark by dragging with the mouse (with LMB pressed).
And I can mark one entire pane by marking the first line and then shift-click on the last one.
And I can copy the selected text with Ctrl+C.
But when I paste into Word, the formatting (the colours) is lost, so I don't see where the differences are.

larsanders,
Ah, I apologize, I mixed up Compare by Content and Synchronize Dirs.

Anyway, this was somewhat helpful. At least I don't have to retype the text.

The save button in Compare contents gets activated after you have edited one or both files from within the Compare contents window (after pressing the button "Edit mode").

Comparer doesn't allow to preserve colors.

BTW, select all text: Ctrl+Home, Ctrl+Shift+End.

Hacker, ofc, thx, fxd.

I reckon then that was is saved are the changed files, and not the actual comparison. And hopefully there is a dialog that gives options how to save. But for my present need, this is not so useful. I am in fact comparing pdf files by comparing text exports of them. Any changes should be made in the pdf files.

However now I found that my old Acrobat 5 can do these comparisons in some ways better, and directly on the pdf files. Then I can also edit the pdf files in Acrobat. However I continue using Compare by content of the text exports in parallell, because some differences are more visible that way. With this usage, the need to save the comparison is much less (because I don't need to make an errata list).

(This is the second time I write this reply. The first was lost, because I had it pending in the editor for a while, then I finished it, hit Submit, had to log in again, and it was lost. I could have foreseen this and copied the text before submit. Learning by mistakes...)

Try pressing Back next time, modern browsers also save the text typed on webpages in their history.
