How to prevent activate auto-refresh globally?

Post by *CHRISJJ »

How can I prevent ALL activation auto-refresh? Refresh is too slow for me to stand on activating a window with >10,000 files.

Configuration -> Refresh -> Auto-refresh when the file system changes

There are several other refresh options there.
You can also use the command cm_SwitchWatchDirs to temporary switch auto refresh.

If you also want to disable refresh when you switch away from TC to another program and back,
fill your drive letter(s) in Auto-Refresh when activating the program.

Thanks, but it's on Activation I want, not FS change.

So... for global disable I have to put every possible drive letter in there?

Indeed, you could put sth. like:
"ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ"
in there for disabling it globally.

But be careful with that option since you're not getting
any feedback for renamed/deleted files that way. Best to use it temporary only.

Will I get feedback from all renamed/deleted done in TC?

Yes, operations done in TC itself will still update the file list.

But if you would change or delete files external (Explorer or similar),
TC won't show it until you refresh manually (F2, or the green Buttonbar-Arrow).

Surely putting the drive letters in only "Auto-Refresh when activating the program" leaving "[x] Auto-Refresh when the file system changes" clear will ensure auto-refresh on external rename/delete?

No.
If you disabled refresh globally, auto-refresh will be triggered only in a few situations, but still not for external change from what I can see.
The only situation I'm aware of is Shift+F4 for creating a new file and opening it with default editor the same time.
Globally disabled and auto-refresh off: file created but not shown in list until manual refresh.
Globally disabled and auto-refresh on: file created and shown in list immediate.

Maybe someone else can answer the specific behavior for this.

Don't you mean Shift+F4 ?
